Mondays 6 - 8.30pm (11 January - 15 February)
-
This six-week course covers the core handbuilding techniques of pinching, coiling and slabs, with a focus on developing form and surface in response to your surroundings.
Weeks 1–5
Each week builds on the last, moving from simple forms to more considered pieces as your skills and confidence grow. Sessions open with a demonstration on form and surface, covering construction, texture and mark-making using found materials. You’ll then work on your own projects with guidance, building a body of functional or non-functional work at your own pace.
Week 6: Glaze
The final week is dedicated to glazing your work. We’ll also touch on glazing with wild and waste materials, and how local rock and waste materials can be tested and used to create surfaces that come directly from place.
Fired pieces are ready to collect 3–4 weeks after the course ends.
The course suits beginners and those with some clay experience.
Includes: clay, firing and tools
Dates: Mondays 11 January - 15 February, 6 - 8.30pm
Location: 221 Liverpool St, Hobart
What to bring: Students will receive an email with what to bring one week before course commencement.
Seats are limited to 10.
Students must be over 16 to participate.
